National Make a Difference Day, celebrated on October 26th, commemorates the power of kindness and community. Established in 1992 by USA Weekend magazine in partnership with Points of Light, this day encourages people to step up and make a positive difference in the lives of others, showing how small acts of kindness and volunteerism can have a lasting impact.

At ThriveWell At Home, we believe that even the smallest gestures can make a big difference, especially when it comes to caring for older adults and their families. From letting someone go ahead in line to offering a smile to a neighbor, these simple moments can brighten someone’s day in ways you may not expect.

Personally, I try to be intentional in my own acts of kindness. For example, if I notice someone struggling to pay for groceries, I discreetly offer help. A simple, sincere "good morning" and a friendly smile can also make someone feel seen and appreciated. These small, thoughtful actions create a ripple effect, touching the lives of those around us.

This National Make a Difference Day, we invite you to reflect on how you can bring joy to others through small acts. After all, kindness transforms the lives of those around you and enriches your own.
